# Upload scientific data

> Upload files, scientific images, and archives through the BisQue web interface.

## Choose files and defaults

1. Select **Upload** in the application toolbar.
2. Drag files into the upload workspace or open the file picker.
3. Set a default permission and optional tag for the batch.
4. Review each file. You can override its permission and tags before starting.
5. Optionally choose a dataset destination.

BisQue creates a durable upload session and transfers each file in chunks. You can continue to
use the application while the upload tray tracks progress.

## Understand processing

Uploading and publishing are separate stages. After bytes arrive, workers inspect the input
and publish the appropriate resource:

* ordinary files become file resources;
* compatible TIFF input is normalized into a canonical scientific image representation; and
* a reviewed multi-series OME-TIFF can produce an ordered image output for each series.

Archives are inspected before extraction. If an archive is ambiguous, its item changes to
**Needs input**. Review the detected content and choose how BisQue should interpret it before
processing continues.

## Recover an interrupted upload

Use the upload queue to pause, resume, cancel, or retry when those actions are valid for the
current state. BisQue keeps durable session history, so a browser refresh does not erase the
server's record of the upload.

If transfer succeeded but adding the output to its selected destination failed, retry the
destination step. BisQue can retry publication without uploading the source bytes again.
